Having been here for 24 hours I have made some observations.
First off the directions at O'Hare are in Greek, or Japanese, actually anything besides English.
It was because of misleading baggage claim and car rental signage, that left me buzzing around with three behind, like I was leading a goddamn tour of the place.
After finding the shuttle to take us to the location of car rentals, I was yet again led astray.
However, the nice woman at the car rental mentioned or perhaps whispered, she had given me an upgrade for free.
I found this to be the validation I needed for spending an hour to get there in the first place.
Once we located our upgraded vehicle, I laughed. A Civic. If this was an upgrade, what was I supposed to have rented, a smart car?
So we finally left the airport and I entrusted my 11 year old to be my co-pilot. This was a huge mistake. If you know any 11 year old boys you'll know they have certain catch phrases. Apparently they are completely acceptable replacements for directions.
Upon leaving the airport the GPS had me going to Indiana. I panicked like Dionne, from Clueless, getting on the freeway.
I started screaming what is it saying?! To which I hear, "it is saying go up your butt and to the left." Not amusing to say the least. Actually, total panic sets in, I could get lost in a paper bag.
We finally get to the hotel, where I pay the fee to check in early, because at this point we are spent.
We immediately all fall asleep for hours.
Now it comes to my attention that my middle one has become obsessed with the time change and has to mention it, CONSTANTLY. It's only an hour but she may as well be in Sydney since her fascination runs so deep. I begin to hear, "So its 9am here which means it's 10 am in New York" on loop.
Yet I must admit, this one hour time change has wiped us all out.
My youngest, however, is severely disappointed that we aren't in the real "Chicago" we are in a suburb. She also likes to repeat this fact often.
But yet the laughter, contagious so far. The belly laughs amazing.
So here's to the next 72 hours with the hopes we can take whatever comes forth with ease and giggles.
Xoxo,
C.
